Walkers Shortbread Fisherton

Walkers Shortbread facility at Aberlour, in Speyside, has recently been expanded to increase production space for their world famous meringues and tarts.

The development incorporates an existing stable block which stood on the ground and now provides office and meeting space. A new link building was constructed between the stable block and the production facility. This link provides staff canteen, further offices and changing facilities. The production facility provides approx 3,200 m2 of open area.

FLN were commissioned for the design of the M&E services installation including specialist services associated with the production equipment. This included compressed air, gas infrastructure, oven flues, fire services, heat recovery systems etc.

The design not only had to take account of the proposed installation but future expansion of the production facility.

The design also took account of innovative heat recovery solutions including heat recovery from air compressors for hot water pre heat and generation, air heat recovery from the compressor discharge air, PV solar roof mounted panels. Other renewable approaches were also considered but not implemented, i.e. rainwater harvesting, CHP, biomass etc.

FLN provided the design, drawings, specification and tender documentation for the services installation and the associated works. FLN also carried out the site inspections, technical assistance and cost assistance as part of the post contract works.

Construction Cost: £4.5M approx
