Colmonell Primary School
South Ayrshire Council was seeking to build a new sustainable primary school in the Ayrshire village of Colmonell, the existing school having been previously demolished. Following a Limited Design Competition ARPL Architects proposal was selected and the design team appointed.
The design incorporated a central teaching area top lit at the heart of the school with classrooms connecting to outside teaching spaces and the playground beyond.
The accommodation comprised administration space, classrooms, open area, nursery area, open teaching space and main hall. The main hall also provides dining facilities and community usage.
The design was to be based on the intention of achieving an “excellent” rating under the BREEAM.
FLN are employed to provide the Mechanical and Electrical Services Design Consultancy. The design incorporated ASHP’s as the heat generation, natural ventilation, daylighting, future provision for both solar water heating and PV systems.
