Glenkens Art Centre
The Catstrand Arts Centre is the hub of the community providing a wide range of quality arts, community and training facilities for the residents of Glenkens, the surrounding areas and as a tourist attraction.
The Catstrand is located on the High Street in New Galloway in the former Kell School and was conceived to provide a multifunctional facility for community events while providing an art orientated centre.
The former school has been incorporated into the new building by forming the main reception and main auditorium / function space facilities. While a new timber and glazed rear extension linked to the existing by a glazed corridor, provides kitchen, smaller meeting rooms and exhibition space.
The rear of the property also provides external sculpture and events space.
FLN were involved in the design of the M&E services from conception to completion and handover of the building.
As part the work FLN incorporated into the design a number of energy efficient and renewable components including a wood pellet biomass boiler plant, underfloor heating and underfloor supply ventilation system.
FLN were also heavily involved in the design and installation of specialist systems including permanent theatre / mood lighting systems while allowing external visiting companies to augment this system, cinema projection and sound systems to allow movie nights and a sound system for general use.
