Lochgilphead High School

Fyne Homes acquired the Lochgilphead High School site, which included the existing school building from Argyll and Bute Council, with a view to provide shared equity and tenanted to meet the local community housing needs.

The existing building was of a condition which it could not be economically retained as part of the proposed housing and was therefore demolished prior to the commencement of the works.

The housing comprises flatted properties, housing of varying bedroom numbers up to 4 beds. The housing usually comprises terrace blocks with occasional semi detached properties. The total number of properties on the site when complete will be approx 100. There are also several serviced plots for private development.

A number of properties have been designed with elderly and disabled tenant in mind while a play area has been incorporated into the design of the site to meet the need of young resident.

Allotments are being provided as part of the wider site development.

FLN are employed as part of their partnership agreement with Fyne Homes to provide the Mechanical and Electrical Services Design Consultancy for this affordable housing development, including external services infrastructure.

As part of the affordability, the design considered the central heating system to ensure an economic solution in this no gas area. Air Source Heat Pumps are being installed in conjunction with a conventional wet radiator system and hot water cylinder.

FLN provide the design, drawings, specification and tender documentation for the services installation. FLN also carried out the site inspections and technical assistance for the services.

Construction Cost: Overall £9.0M
